Blessings in Disguise

My granddaughter, Emily (above - age 7), got to spend the night with me last night and a few hours this morning before returning home. We had a good time eating dinner last night at McDonalds, renting and watching Ratatouille (?), sleeping late, having breakfast together, watching Hairspray, practicing her piano lesson, playing on the computer, etc. Naturally, she did not want to go home when her Dad and brother came by to pick her up. I'm so thankful my grandchildren want to come to my house and hate to leave. I love them all so much!!!!
I initially had plans for this weekend before finding out that Emily was coming. A friend of mine had sent me four free tickets to attend a Christmas concert at the Cultural Center for last night. I gave three of them to friends at church who said they would love to go with me. Well, when I found out I could not go because of Emily coming, I called one of the friends and told them I could not go. Bottom line, none of them went either. I feel bad that free tickets were not taken advantage of, but I know I was doing what I was supposed to be doing - enjoying my grandchild. Next, I had planned to go with a couple of friends for the day to Market Days in Tallahassee. That didn't pan out either, but you know what? I'm not disappointed that I didn't get to go (except to enjoy the fellowship of my two friends) as, again, I had my priorities in order. After Emily left, I dropped off bags of clothes to the consignment shop for Angela, did some more Christmas shopping, had my nails done, wrapped presents, etc. None of that would have gotten done if I had been gone all day. So, sometimes our failed plans turn out to be blessings in disguise. There will be other concerts and other market days but Emily will only be little once and I will not be on this earth forever.
Tomorrow is Sunday and, as always, I look forward to being in God's house. I look forward to being with God's people, friends, and all the activities of the day. I hope everyone who reads this will also be in church worshipping. Until next time...Mom.

Christmas in the air!

Grandchildren numbers 3, 4 and 5 decided I needed to get my tree up, so up it went. I think they did a super job of decorating it (of couse, it's not finished in these pictures) and I'm leaving it just the way they fixed it. Don't you just love Emily's "boots" (Christmas stockings that belong to someone in the family). ha. Can you guess what the guys were doing while the tree was being decorated? I love Christmas and can hardly wait to get the rest of my shopping done, gifts wrapped, and meals planned. The weekend is upon me, so maybe I'll get some of that accomplished. Later...Mom.

Tired and Thankful!

Here it is Saturday night, and my bunch has just all left. The house is quiet as a mouse but in quite a mess. With 12 people in and out, that's all one can expect and I don't mind the mess as long as we are together. I am so thankful for my family. It' s been a wonderful weekend loving on the grandchildren, rocking the baby, conversing with the older ones, eating together as a family, shopping with my daughters, sleeping with little ones (trying to at least), making crafts, cooking, playing outside, picking up pecans in my front yard, watching movies, taking pictures, putting up the Christmas tree (partially - their interest waned before done, so I'll get to finish that myself. I've NEVER put up a tree before 12/1, so this is a first. What we won't do for those grandchildren!), seeing old friends, visiting with extended family, and on and on I could go about what we did. Maybe that's why Thanksgiving and Christmas are my two favorite holidays -- we are all together! Yes, I'm tired, but it' s a good tired and I look forward to doing it again in about a month. Until next time...Mom.

Remembering 33 years ago

Didn't think I could remember that far back, did ya?! Well it was a memorable day as my Jawan made her entrance into this world. Yep, she's 33 today and I couldn't be prouder of her. She's a pastor's wife, the mother of three beautiful children, a wonderful Christian, and a precious daughter. I'm so thankful for all my children: both daughters being pastors' wives, both being mothers of three beautiful children each, both wonderful Christians, and both precious daughters. And last, but not least, is my handsome son - still single (but we're praying that God will send the "right" one to him soon) and just as precious to me as the girls. In addition, I have two wonderful preacher sons-in-law that I couldn't love more and am so thankful God brought them to my daughters. I'm just getting a little head start on Thanksgiving by counting my blessings now (as I do quite often). I spent this past weekend with Jawan and family and had a wonderful time. Took lots of pictures but haven't uploaded them onto computer yet but will do so soon. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving when everybody will be at my house for a few days. Until next time...Mom.

Halloween

Here it is halloween night but at my house you'd never know it. Since it is Wednesday, I was at church during the trick-or-treating. After church, six of us went to a restaurant for dinner and fellowshipped for a while. So, by the time I got home, the little goblins were all back home. What I did encounter when I turned in my driveway was what I thought was a dog in the street but turned out to be a really big 'possum. I decided I wouldn't stop at the mailbox to see what mail came today and would just wait until tomorrow morning. ha. I didn't bother it and didn't want it to bother me. Our receptionist at the office lives way out in the country and said there's a bear that visits their yard quite often. I think I'd be looking for another place to live!

I'm looking forward to the weekend as I plan to go to Jawan's as Abigail is being dedicated on Sunday. Can hardly wait to see those three little ones (as well as the two big ones)! I am so blessed!

You'd think I'd have lots to talk about since it's been so long since I posted. Nope. So, until next time...Mom.

Life is Full!

I've been very busy the last week, but it's all been wonderful:

Tuesday night of last week: We had our ladies' meeting at church. The speaker I had lined up was sick and couldn't come (which I found out about the night before the meeting), so my friend improvised and wrote a skit. It was hilarious and such fun! Maybe we need to be spontaneous more often!

Wednesday night was church.

Thursday night, I sat with my mother-in-law for about four hours. She had back surgery about three months ago and has had no feeling in her legs since. I took my Phase 10 cards and taught her how to play, watched game shows, talked and had dessert. It was a good visit, but my heart was really heavy upon leaving knowing how this once vibrant, active, full of life woman is now totally dependent upon others for everything. However, her spirits are good, and she knows God has her in this situation for a reason.

Friday night, Steve and Emily came up and we all went to the football game. Thankfully, our team won so it was a good outing.

Saturday and Saturday night, Emily was at my house. She and I slept late, ate a good breakfast, went to Pet Stop and let her look at the animals and buy her cat a toy, went to Lowe's and Walmart to get groceries and a toy for her (yes, you can't take her to Walmart without buying her something!). ha. Back home and watched a movie, ate, picked up pecans in my front yard, played with her new toy, ate supper, had bath and hair washing, read Bible stories, had prayer, and lights out.

Today (Sunday): Steve preached at New Shiloh's (the church he pastored before going to the one in Florida) homecoming, so I went there instead of to my church. Angela and Ethan drove up as well, so all of the family was together except for Meredith who left this morning with the FFA school group for a week in Indianapolis, IN for the FFA Convention. Angela, Steve, Ethan and Emily left about mid-afternoon going back home (with Emily just crying her heart out because she didn't want to leave me! Aren't grandchildren wonderful!). I went back to my church tonight and to Dairy Queen with the usual bunch after church. Just got off the phone with Jawan, Andrew and Luke, so my day has been great.

Hope all of you have a wonderful week. I would ask that you keep Jawan in your prayers as she goes tomorrow for an out-patient procedure. Just pray that all will be well. Until next time...Mom.

Blessings!

My children are at the top of my list of blessings. I'm so proud of all three of them - they bring joy to this mom's heart. I'm blessed with six beautiful grandchildren, two wonderful sons-in-law, a great job, a Biblically based church and pastor, Christian friends, a home, food, clothing, etc., etc., etc. There are so many more that I did not name (I'd be here all night if I named them all), but there are two or three more that I want to mention. God knows when we need a "lift" and sends just the right person. This week, those persons have been my sweet, wonderful, beautiful, godly sister, Norma, and her oldest daughter, Renae. Both of them have either called, or e-mailed, or both with such sweet words of encouragement and love. After sharing with them some low moments I've experienced recently, I picked up my Bible not thinking of any particular scripture except I knew I wanted to read in the Psalms. Guess which one I chose -- Chapter 143 (NASB version). I'm so thankful David shared his heart with us! He had many low moments as well and it makes me feel better to know I'm not the first (or the last). So, thank you, Norma and Renae (and David), for following the urging of the Holy Spirit to connect with me this week. We have put the devil on the run!!!!!
I had some blood work done yesterday just to be sure I'm ok physically and today I have a whopper of a bruised left arm. I knew it hurt pretty bad when the technician stuck the needle in and now I know why. The last time I had it done (about a year ago), I was not even aware of the procedure. Just shows that some know how to do it and others don't.
The weekend is upon us, and I'm looking forward to all of my extracurricular activities. ha. There are a lot of things going on in town and the surrounding towns, so there won't be any lack of things to do. In addition, our fair is in full swing this week, so I may go wander around down there a while on Saturday evening and people watch and look at the exhibits and animals. It doesn't take much to entertain me as you can tell.
Until next time...Mom.

Bitter Sweet

There's no other way to describe this past week/weekend. Bitter in that Steve's dad left this earth; sweet in that I was with Angela and her family. Actually, there was more sweet than bitter: We know his dad is now with Jesus, and nothing can compare to that; Steve did a beautiful job preaching the funeral and I love him more than ever; Angela, Meredith and Ethan sang "Farther Along" a capella that was just the most beautiful ever and, of course, made me very proud; I played the piano for the rest of the service; and I got to spend a lot of time with Steve's family. So, how can we be sad when God is so good to us!

Today at work was very busy but good. Then I got a call from my friend, Ramona, asking me to meet her and Debbie for dinner and whatever else we might think of to do when I got home. So, I met them at Zaxby's for dinner, after which we hit Roses, Freds and Walmart. What fun to share time with good friends, shop and laugh, even though my feet were killing me. I didn't have a chance to come home and change clothes and had on my high heels that I had on all day. Ouch!

It's almost dessert time so must close for now. ha. Until next time...Mom.

Sorry for the Delay

Revival was over Wednesday night of this week, so I have no excuse for not blogging on Thursday night. Friday after work, I headed for Florida to visit with Angela and family. Can you believe my two oldest grandchildren have their driving permits?!?!?!? Sorry the other picture is sideways. I couldn't figure out how to turn it on the blog. It was upright in my computer album but plopped on here sideways. Wannie, help!!! Anyhow, I got to their house in time to go to their high school football game (Angela had to take up tickets, so we got in free), and their team (The Raiders) won! Today, all of us girls spent the day in Gainesville shopping, eating and taking in the sights. And, boy were there some sights. Auburn and Florida were playing each other tonight and you've never seen so many people, so much tailgating, and so many skimpy outfits, etc. The game is on as I'm doing this, and it looks like the stadium is overflowing. Meredith chauffered us around and did a really good job. This was the first time I had ridden with her since she got her permit, and we were in MY car! But, as I said, she did a great job in all that traffic. I got home about 7:30 tonight and am looking forward to being in God's house tomorrow. Hope all of you are having a great weekend. Until next time...Mom.

I'm Tryin'

Do you know that for a procrastinator such as I how hard it is to do an entry almost every day?! But, I'm trying, so give me credit for that. It's been a good weekend; no yard sale-ing yesterday as my friend (Ramona) had other things she had to get done and there were only three listed in the paper (I think because of the weather forecast no one wanted to do one). So, I had my oil changed in the car, bought a new microwave oven, and piddled until around 4:30 when I went over to Ramona's for dinner. She prepared dinner for nine of us (our pastor and his wife, the visiting evangelist and his wife, Bo and Debbie, me, and Ramona and Herman) and boy was it delicious (barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, seven layer salad, iced tea, and pineapple nut cake)!

Our revival started today with Dr. Gene Winfrey as the evangelist. He's 84 years old and has just gotten over aorta aneurism surgery a few months ago. He was with us last year, so we knew we wanted him again this year. His wife, Wana, is so sweet and personable. She played the accordian tonight and sang two songs - she's 83. We are all excited about the services, as the two sermons he preached today were powerful!

Due to the above, I may not write every day. On the other hand, I may.ha. Do procrastinators look for excuses? Anyway, until next time, whenever that may be...Mom.

Meeting

My church family came over tonight, and we had our prayer time for revival. Only eight came but we had a wonderful time praying, eating, laughing and sharing on different topics. I love my church family! I was a little disappointed that more didn't come, but I guess God sent the ones He wanted to be here. Therefore, I won't complain. Our revival starts Sunday and goes through Wednesday night. The evangelist is 84 years old and was with us a year ago. Boy, is he ever good! His health has not been good in the last few months, and it was kinda "iffy" if he would be able to come. So far, he and his wife (Wana) will be here. I do hope we have a good one. Until next time...Mom.

Ready!

We spend a lot of time worrying about our house when we know company is coming. I'm no exception. However, I have decided that a lot of things are unnecessary and have learned what to clean and what not to. My church family will be coming over tomorrow night (Thursday) for a revival prayer time. I have vacuumed, dusted, mopped, cleaned the bathroom, emptied trash cans, put out clean towels, and made a list of things I have to stop and get tomorrow on the way home from work. I know you were dying to hear all of this so there, you have it. ha. I am excited about having them and hope we have a good turnout. I can seat about 15 comfortably and any over that amount will get the floor or stand. Whatever the turnout, we have to remember the reason for the meeting and make that our priority. I'll let you know how it turns out. Until next time...Mom.

Update

Since I haven't talked to them in a couple of weeks, I called my brother to see how my sister-in-law is doing after having her mastectomy. Thankfully, I was relieved with the good report. He said she is awfully sore and riding in a car is very painful (bumps and jarring). Other than that, however, he says she is doing good. No chemo or radiation but does have to take some kind of pill once a day for five years. I think that's wonderful! He says he is doing ok, too -- just can't walk or exert himself for very long. As long as he's doing nothing, he feels good. ha. Can we relate?! Anyway, just wanted you to know her condition. Please keep her (them) in your prayers. Until next time...Mom.

Ouch!

Ouch is right!! Since the weather was so nice today, we decided to start our walking routine again. We must have walked at least three miles this afternoon and I'm so stiff I can hardly move. Just shows how out of shape I am! I'm hoping I can get my mind to cooperate with my body and cut back on some of the things I love to eat. (Just had my coke float! yum!) But, you know, losing weight would be great but I enjoy the fellowship with my friend, being able to vent, cry, laugh, or whatever we might need to do at the moment. As it happened, my friend needed me to be there to just listen. So, for three miles that's mostly what I did. We came to the conclusion that prayer is probably the best and only answer. I'm so thankful for the privilege of bringing all of our cares to our Abba Father, Poppa God, knowing that he loves and cares and WILL answer in His time and in His way. Gotta go wash dishes so, until next time...Mom.

A Good Day

Yes, it's been a good day. Got up at 6:15 a.m., dressed, drove over and picked up Ramona, and off we went to our yard sale-ing. I didn't find a thing I wanted, so didn't spend any money. Then we went to Rayann's and meandered up and down Broad Street for the sidewalk sale. We then rode to Moultrie and hit a flea market and on to their Dollar Tree; back to T'ville and had my car washed at the Depot and took her home. Whew!! I came home and zonked out on the couch for about three hours. Then out again to have my nails done. I'm home now and have vacuumed the house and am about to dust as I listen to and watch the Braves. Doesn't that sound like an exciting way to end the day? By the way, Jawan, I discovered today that Beverly Lewis' new book is out - "The Parting." Yes, I bought it and will be happy to share. I am so blessed yet so sinful in not doing some things that have crossed my mind to do. God's grace and mercy are new every morning and I must be more diligent in walking closer to Him. I received in the mail today David Jeremiah's new book - "Signs of Life" - and it is wonderful. So full of advice, guidance, and the Word on how to be "alive" for Christ. Ok, I've got to fix a bite to eat, get the dust off everything, and relax a bit before bedtime. Until next time...Mom.

Weekend!

I really don't have anything in particular to write about but didn't want to let so much time lapse between entries. The weekend has started off good, however, having dinner with my friends (above - Herman and Ramona) at Fallin's with yard sale shopping tomorrow morning and breakfast afterwards. I've just been hanging out at home tonight washing dishes, mopping the kitchen, washing clothes and watching my Braves. A younger girl at work asked me what my plans for the weekend were, and I said I don't have any. She said that sounded really boring to her and she couldn't imagine having nothing to do. Of course, she has three small children and will have lots to do for years to come. My response to her was that I have been there and done that.ha. It's not that I have nothing to do; it's just that I don't have any particular plans. I have plenty to do (vacuum, dust, clean bathroom, etc., etc.. etc.) and will try to work up the energy to do it. So, I must go and remove clothes from dryer, fold, put away, etc. Until next time...Mom.

Ad Lib-bing

Tonight was our ladies' meeting at church, and we had 16 ladies present. The speaker I had lined up to do the program called me after lunch today at work and told me she was not going to be able to be there. I had about an hour to come up with something to substitute. I understand her reason, but it sure was a letdown. Naturally, all of our ladies were disappointed also. I did book her for next month, so let's pray it doesn't rain that day/night. This is a school teacher who was on her way to school one morning (in the rain) and someone hit her head on. She was in the hospital for weeks and, at one point, didn't know if she was going to make it. She still has to use crutches to walk and has not been able to go back to work. I haven't met her but in talking with her on the phone, she sound like a really sweet person and very willing to give her testimony. She just has an aversion to driving in the rain and thought it was going to rain tonight. It didn't. Oh well, we know that God is in control. We had a fun time together anyway with my doing a short devotional and then playing a game about "What's in your purse?" Out of 24 items listed on my sheet, one lady had 15 of them so she won the prize. The person with the strangest item in their purse also won a prize (you'd never guess so I'll tell you -- hemoroid medicine!). ha. We had a lot of wonderful food and fellowship so it was a good night.

Ok, two nights in a row blogging -- how many times do you have to do something before it becomes a habit? I think I've a ways to go. Until next time...Mom.

Still here!

Ain't she sweet!! My newest grandbaby (Abigail) - eight weeks old in this picture and just smiles up a storm! I had both of my girls and their families (well, most of them) for Labor Day and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. WOW, was my house quiet when everybody left on Monday afternoon, but it didn't take long to get back into the "rut."

I had a good busy week, a great weekend, and am beginning another busy week. Each of my three attorney bosses has a trial in the next two weeks, so you can imagine my work load. I love being busy but sure come home tired. But I count my blessings: I don't have to cook when I get home; I don't have to clean; I don't have to do laundry; I don't have to do anything that I don't want to do; I don't have to answer to anyone; I can go where I please, etc., etc., etc.. ha. Sounds great, and most of the time it is. However, there are disadvantages: There's no one (humanly speaking) waiting on me when I come home; there's one to encourage me; there's no one to make me feel special and loved; there's no one to share the events of my day with. Sometimes that gets to me; sometimes I love it. I'm spending more time with the Lord in His Word, in prayer for my children/grandchildren/extended family, so I guess the time alone is valuable. I do have to be on guard, however, for Satan stands ready to attack my thoughts. Believe me, he comes at me quite often and tries to make me believe that, oh well, just take my word for it - he has his tactics. But you know what I am very thankful for? My sweet daddy who is in heaven now taught me something (one of many, many things): We can't help growing old in number but we don't have to grow old in attitude. I'm thankful for that and really don't feel my age. In fact, sometime (until I look in the mirror) I have to remind myself that I am not 30 something anymore. Most of the time, I'm a very optimistic person. Thank you, Daddy.

We have a man in our church (in fact, he pastored the church I go to for 35 years until he retired but I was not a member there during his pastorate) who analyzes handwriting. I think everybody in the church has had him to do theirs, so I wasn't gonna be left out. I've read many of the ones he analyzed, and he never says anything negative about the person. Therefore, I kinda liked what he said about me. ha. Maybe I'll share it with you someday.

Ok, Renae and Jawan, I've blogged again. Can you believe my sweet niece in California let me know today by e-mail that I needed to blog again?! That's ok, Renae, I'm just glad you're finally using the computer to e-mail. ha. This one is so long, you may hesitate to encourage me again. Anyway, until next time...Mom.

Still So Blessed!

I'm late again, but what else is new?! Just returned home from Wednesday night church service, had my coke float (yum! - Butter pecan), and am watching/listening to the Braves. It's been a good week so far and I'm planning for the rest of it to be good as well. I've talked to all of my children this week, got good reports from the Brooks grands on the first day of school, saw some precious pictures of the McGinnis grands, and got a blessing from Stu's blog. How could I ask for more?

I have such wonderful friends! I asked the husband of one of my friends at church Sunday night if he had a chain saw. His answer was "yes, I have three." So, I asked him if some day when he had nothing to do (he's retired) if he would come by my house and cut down some azalea bushes by my carport. He said sure. Well, on Monday afternoon when I came in from work, my yard looked wonderful! He had not only cut the azalea bushes but had cut a dead cottonwood tree in my back yard and had all the trimmings piled out on the street for the trash truck. I called and thanked him and told him I would think of something to do for him, but he said no, he just wanted to do that for me. Christian friends are such blessings and I'm so thankful for those in my life.

I must go cheer the Braves on to victory (they are ahead at the moment) and do some studying before bedtime. Until next time...Mom.

Home from conference

My three friends and I attended the Women of Faith "Amazing Freedom" Conference in Atlanta this past weekend and had a wonderful time. We were inspired, encouraged, convicted, challenged, touched, and just overall filled with good music and messages. Patsy Clairmont, Marilyn Meberg, Sheila Walsh, Lucy Swindoll, Sandi Patti, Nicole C. Mullen, Anita Renfroe, Nicole Johnson, Carol Kent, the praise team, and Denise Jackson (Allen Jackson's wife) were all on the program and did a super job. There were a few frustrations: outrageous prices for food, parking and hotel rooms; tremendous traffic (18,000 in attendance just for the conference besides all the regular Atlanta residents); long, long lines; sitting in the nosebleed section, etc. We all came home thankful for our little town and the slowness of life. But despite all of that, it was a wonderful weekend. The icing on the cake for me was getting to have lunch with Stuart on Saturday lunch break. Even though we only got an hour together, it was great to be with him. Now that I've used ALL of my vacation time for the year, I pray for strength to get me through December (just glad we have Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays). So, until next time...Mom.

Back to the Norm

What a sweet week I had last week with both of my girls and five of my six grandchildren. Of course, I had to work during the day and only got few hours with them at night, but the time together was wonderful. From the 1 month old to the 16 year old, the children were precious and endeared themselves to me more than ever. How sweet it is to have those little arms reach up to me and wrap themselves around my neck and give kisses and hugs and say "I love you, Gami." (at least the three who could talk. ha.) They all left on Saturday afternoon and the house was quiet, quiet, quiet. However, I am not a moper, so I washed every dish in the kitchen and then went shopping. What else does a woman do to lift her spirits? ha.

Sunday, as you already know, is my favorite day of the week and this one was no exception. Sunday School, worship, lunch, leisure afternoon, and back to church at night was the norm for me and I love it! I am so thankful for godly brothers and sisters who give support and encouragement and pray for me. I know one in particular did because today at work was so much better. I just knew in my spirit that prayer had been offered on my behalf.

I'm looking forward to this weekend as four of us are going to Atlanta for the Women of Faith Conference on Friday night and all day Saturday. I went to one last year in Orlando and was greatly blessed, so I knew the ladies of my church should have an opportunity to experience the same blessings. Only three others could work it out to go, so we are really excited. The four of us are good friends and will enjoy the fellowship with each other on the way there and back and sharing hotel rooms as we will the conference. I'm sure next week I'll be full of things to blog about.

Must go get some other things done. Until next time...Mom.

A Mary Heart

How I long to have a Mary heart in a Martha world!! Yet, each day as I leave my office I think, "I blew it again today." You know, attitudes and little irritations that constantly pop up and you speak before you think?! I pray each morning that I will make an impact for Jesus. I guess maybe HE is putting these situations before me to see if I really mean it. I must try harder!

In spite of the above, I do have joy in my heart for lots of things. I have been given the gift of salvation, feel good, walk regularly with a friend, have a wonderful job/bosses, have three super children, two awesome sons-in-law, six unbelievable grandchildren, a spiritually grounded church/pastor, a Bible to read and absorb, a home, a new car, a decent salary, good neighbors, food, clothing, etc., etc., etc.

There are so many who have so much less, so I'm thankful for the blessings God has showered on my life that are so undeserved. And guess what! Tomorrow is Friday! I must get busy and plan my activities. ha Until next time...Mom.

Rushin' Around

Wow, it has been a busy weekend. Yard-sale shopped, made a trip to Moultrie, attended two book signings, trip to consignment shop (Angela, that was for you), delivered two gifts, visited with a friend, washed/dried/folded clothes, vaccumed, church, lunch out with group, and here I am! I love being busy! It's been a wonderful weekend, and I'm looking forward to going to work tomorrow. Angela, Steve, Meredith and Ethan have gone with their youth group this week to Ridgecrest but left Emily with a church family. I know she will be taken care of, but it hurts my heart that she is not with one of her own family members. She'll probably have a ball - I'm the one who will be miserable. ha. I hope all of you have a wonderful week. Until next time...Mom.

Book Signing

My friend's (Debbie Griffiths) book came out today - "LITTLE LADY, BIG DREAM" - and she had her first book signing this afternoon from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Southwest Georgia Technical College here in Thomasville (she graduated there from nursing school in 1975 at age 18). I just couldn't miss it, so I took off early from work and served as her official photographer. I used her camera and don't have any pictures to attach. It was a huge success: her publisher was there, she sold approximately 150 books, the talk she gave (as well as her publisher and the president of the college) was wonderful, the decorations were beautiful, the food was delicious, and I got to see several people I have not seen in a while. I am so proud of her and am so humbled that she listed me on the acknowledgment page as helping her with the book. She is a sweet friend, and I hope her book does well. Check out her web site at http://www.littleladybigdream.com/ You can even order a copy of the book from that site, as well as read all the comments, sign the guest book, etc. She has two signings on Saturday that I will help her with as well. As you can tell, I'm still excited but must move on to something else before bedtime. Until next time...Mom.

My Special Blessings!

I just had my children on my mind tonight and am so thankful for all three of them. They are beautiful inside and out, have given me two wonderful sons-in-law and six wonderful grandchildren. They all have their own unique set of needs, but they also have their own unique talents and spiritual gifts. Bottom line -- They make my heart swell with thankfulness and gratitude for God's blessings. I love you Angela, Jawan and Stuart! Mom.

Life is Good!

Wow, I've had a wonderful week in Columbus with Jawan as she presented me with my sixth grandchild. Abigail arrived on Friday, 7/6. In addition to the excitement of having her added to the family, I had a ball taking care of Andrew and Luke. They are so precious!! Stuart came over on Friday afternoon to see his new niece and spent the night. I always enjoy my time with him. Today, however, I had to go back to work but even that was good. I walked with my friend when I got home, and am now being lazy (tired!). Our VBS starts tomorrow night and continues through the weekend, so I'll be involved with that. This is short but pretty much sums up my activities for the past few days. Until next time...Mom.

Grandbaby #6

Can you guess where I am? My sixth grandchild (a girl, Abigail) was born on 7/6/07, so I'm getting to babysit her two older brothers. Mother, Dad and baby are all doing great! God is so good and continues to answer prayers. Stuart came over last night and stayed until this afternoon, so that was great getting to visit with my 6'2" baby. ha. I'm busy (and tired), so until next time...Mom.

Yard Sale-ing

I made a flying trip to Columbus Friday after work to help Jawan with her yard sale on Saturday. We worked until about 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning getting the tables and items ready for sale. The wonderful thing about it was that she has an enclosed garage, and didn't have to open it until we were ready. ha. So, about 8:30 we opened up shop and spent the morning sweating and visiting with the shoppers. Her mother-in-law, Cheryl, came over and helped, so I got to spend some time playing with Andrew and Luke. Needless to say, I came home Saturday night extremely tired and drained from the heat. I think I went to bed at 9:15, which is very unlike me. Anyway, I enjoyed the trip and God granted traveling mercy.

Today has been the usual Sunday: Sunday school and church, lunch out with friends, nap this afternoon and back to church tonight. I loved every minute of it! As I write this, it is raining and thundering outside, so sleep should be good tonight.

At one time or another during the weekend, I got to talk to my other two, so the weekend was complete. I know this isn't very "newsy," but that's about all there is to report. Until next time...Mom.

Pictures

Can you believe I actually figured out how to do this?!? Thanks to Jawan! These are the friends mentioned in my previous post who came over and tied on the pine cones. The first picture is Debbie and Ramona, next is Debbie and me, and the last is Debbie and Barbara. Now that I know I can, I'll be attaching more pictures later. Until then...Mom.

Pine Cones!

Yep, we tied on the pine cones tonight. ha. Debbie's book is to be released July 15th, and she has about five book-signing engagements coming up. Her company name is Pine Cone Management Company, so she is using miniature pine cones tied to the corner of a business card to give with each book sold at the signings. She, Ramona and Barbara met at my house tonight and we had a ball tying on the pine cones, laughing, eating, and just enjoying each other's company. Friends are priceless, and I am so blessed to have several. For any of you who want to read a good book, be on the lookout for Debbie's book - "Little Lady, Big Dream" It can be ordered from her web site: www.littleladybigdream.com Click on the button "About the Book" and scroll down almost to the bottom and you'll see my comment. Check out all of her web site! I feel an ice cream craving coming on, so gotta go take care of that! Until next time...Mom.

The Procrastinator Checks In!

A lot of you got the 40 question e-mail I responded to, so you know that Sunday is my favorite day. It is has been a wonderful one but way too short. I had lunch with an old (long-time) friend that I hadn't seen in many months, my sister-in-law (Ramona H.) came over for a visit this afternoon, we had two wonderful services at church today, and topped it off with a finger-food fellowship after church. Could it get any better?!?!? (Only if my own family had been here.) We (my friend Ramona K.) did our yard-sale shopping yesterday (bought Luke a booster seat and two books for Andrew), went to Badcocks and ordered me a chair for my living room, ate breakfast at Hardee's, got a haircut, and went to a 50th wedding anniversary celebration in the afternoon. So, the weekend has been short and busy. I'm looking forward to the work week (call me weird) and will check in later. Until next time...Mom.

Home Again!

I've just returned home from a week of babysitting for Jawan and boy am I tired. It's been a long time since I tried to keep up with a 3 year old and an 18 month old. I'm so thankful Angela and Emily were there with me to help. Regardless of the tiredness, we had a wonderful week. The children were wonderful and gave us no problems (except locking the bathroom door with no one in there to open it - I had to take the door knob off to get it open - and pushing two doors together so that the knobs overlapped and were almost impossible to get apart). ha. Otherwise, they were just their sweet childish selves. We went to Hollywood Connection, Monkey Joe's, Toys-R-Us, Walmart, Tuesday Morning, Publix, and played in the water in back yard. God answered so many prayers this week:

--Angela, Emily and I had safe travel to and from Columbus, safety while there, and all needs were provided;
--Andrew and Luke adjusted to being without Mommie and Daddy for the week and seemed to have a good time and were protected from any mishaps;
--Meredith placed in the top 10 at the FFA conference with her song and had safe travel to and from Orlando;
--Steve and Ethan stayed home and were safe and provided for;
--Jawan and Mitch had safe flights to and from Memphis and were protected and provided for while there; and
--Stuart (although he is in the midst of a job change) has also been protected and provided for and has a wonderful attitude about his situation.

God is so good, and I thank him daily for my family and all the blessings he showers upon us. Tomorrow is Sunday, and I plan to be in His house for worship and praise and thanksgiving. I hope all of you will do the same. Until next time....Mom.

Vacationing

As I write this, I am in Columbus at Jawan's staying with her boys while she and Mitch are in Memphis. Angela and Emily are here with me, and we are having a wonderful time. Yesterday, we took a walk around the neighborhood with the kids in strollers and boy was that an ordeal. This is a hilly, hilly, hilly neighborhood. ha. Don't know if we'll try that again today or not. We went to Hollywood Connection, which is a fun place all indoors for the kids to ride different things (small ferris wheel, swings, choo-choo - but the choo-choo was not in operation yesterday - rock climbing, playground activities, etc.) They really enjoyed that and it was cool - great place! We also filled the kiddie pool with water, turned on the sprinkler, and they had a wonderful wet time. We ate a lot and watched cartoon movies, etc. and had them in bed by 9:30, after which Angela and I watched "Flywheel." That is a wonderful movie!!!!! Today, I think we'll take the kids to Monkey Joe's and let them play there. I've never been, so will have to give an update later. Until next time .... Mom.

Packing up!

Here it is Sunday night, and I'm packing my suitcase to go to Jawan's to babysit for the week. I can hardly wait to get my lovin' on Andrew, Luke and Emily. Yes, Angela and Emily are going with me for the week, and I am so excited!!! It's going to be strange being at Jawan's with her not there, but we'll have a wonderful time. The weekend has been really good - Friday night I ate dinner at Ramona and Herman's, along with Debbie and Bo, and we played Uno afterwards while it poured down rain. Saturday was absolutely beautiful, so I was in and out all day - doing laundry, grocery shopping, etc. Today, of course, was church twice, lunch with friends and an afternoon nap. By the way, my new couch is so-o-o-o comfortable!! I'm still looking for a chair and a rug. The cable folks are to be here by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow to install another outlet and Angela and family are to arrive around lunch. We'll leave shortly thereafter for Columbus. Meredith will be in Orlando for the week, so please keep her in your prayers for safety, etc. Hopefully, I'll be motivated while in Columbus to post once or twice. Until next time.....Mom.

Burdens

At church tonight, the lesson was on intercessory prayer. This was not a new subject, but just brought to my mind a whole list of needs in my own little family:

Meredith - going to Orlando next week for a conference (Monday - Friday) - pray for her safety and that she will be an outstanding example of a Christian to those around her. Pray that she will do her very best with the song she is to sing and be happy with the outcome regardless of what it is. She's my first grandchild and is so precious (as are all of the others, but you know how it is with the first).

Jawan and Mitch - going to Memphis next week for a conference - she only has five more weeks before the baby is due, so I'm a little anxious about her flying - pray for her (their) safety;

Stuart - thinking seriously about a new business venture with his best friend - pray for wisdom and guidance not only for that but for his life in general;

Andrew - getting him to bed at night has become an ordeal - pray for wisdom, patience, and calmness that a solution will be found;

Kristie - my great-niece in California - about to go through a divorce - pray for God's will to be done - this is one of those times I don't know what to ask for other specifically, so that covers it all;

Angela and Steve - without being specific, just pray for God to reveal His will to them about their situation;

Ethan - in those confusing, exciting, depressing, mixed=up teenage years - pray for his faith to see him through all situations, that he will stay clean physically, morally and spiritually and be an example to others;

Emily, Andrew and Luke - pray for their salvation when they are old enough to understand. They are all so precious to this grandmother and I do pray for not only their salvation but for their physical safety, mental and emotional health, and happiness in general.

Is that enough to keep me on my knees for a month? I hope you will join me for prayer is powerful. Until next time.....Mom.

Feeling Thankful!

I've just returned home from a walk with my friend, Ramona, and feel so blessed to have her friendship. I usually drive to her house in the afternoon when I get home from work, and we walk her neighborhood (about 2.7 miles). After our walk, we have a tall glass of ice water as we sit on her front porch and talk. Sometimes the talks are serious but usually we laugh a lot and talk about our children and grandchildren. I'm so thankful God brought her into my life. She encourages me, compliments me, confides in me, and most of all - she prays for me. Just today, she told me I was like family to her and she would be there for me no matter the time of day or night. She's already proven that in the last two weeks, so you see why I'm so thankful. So, just wanted to share about the blessing of a friend. Until next time....Mom.

Catch-Up

Gee, I've been busy but the worst is over. The house re-do is done, my sweet sister has been and gone, a trip to Mississippi was made, children were visited (2 of the 3 - Florida and Georgia), and I'm back at work in my comfortable rut. I love all that was done to the house but am still lacking a chair and rug for the living room (and would really like a new entertainment center - black). Hopefully, I'll find just the right ones in the near future. I'm looking forward to next week when I go to Jawan's to keep Andrew and Luke while she and Mitch go to Tennessee for a conference. It's nice to have a week off, work two, off again, work two more and off again soon thereafter (whenever Abigail decides to make her appearance). My church family teases me and says I tell my bosses when I'll work. ha. Not really, but when you've been at a job for 16 years, you are entitled to a few perks. I know this is short considering the length of time between writing, but I've recapped about everything without going into detail. So, until next time.............Mom.

Update!

Progress is still being made on my house. Here is a list of what has taken place so far:

Crown molding in LR, hallway and kitchen;
Beadboard in kitchen;
Two new light fixtures in kitchen;
New vent hood over stove;
One new light fixture in LR;
New front door;
New front storm door;
New side door;
Cabinet adjustment (no more space between stove and countertops!);
Three new closet doors (bi-fold);
Repair of molding on outside of double window in LR;
Painting of ceilings in LR and kitchen;
Measurements taken for new flooring in LR and kitchen;

Marcus is giving me a statement tonight at church for what has been done so far. Pray that I won't be too shocked! There are still a few things I would like for him to do, depending on cost. I can hardly wait for the flooring to be done as that will make the biggest difference of all. Next will come a yard sale to get rid of some old furniture and, in turn, buy some new. Will keep you posted! Until next time...Mom.

Progress!

My weekend was wonderful and was filled with busy-ness. Friday night, I was part of a wedding rehearsal; Saturday morning yard-sale shopped; Saturday afternoon shopped with a couple of friends for new items for my house (cabinet knobs, light fixtures, doors, paint, hardwood, etc.); Saturday night, I played for the wedding; Sunday morning church; Sunday lunch with friends; Sunday night church. Today, further progress is being made on my house fix-up; tomorrow, someone else is coming over to measure for flooring. I'm excited and will keep you updated! So, until next time.... Mom.

Some of my grandkids

These are four of my five grandchildren (Ethan, age 14, is in the rabbit suit). Luke, the youngest, was napping. I'm just learning how to put pictures on the blog - in fact, Jawan did this one for me. Anyway, enjoy!

On a Roll!

Wow, I've had two comments on my last blog and I'm excited!!! Of course, they were from my daughter and niece, but still.... I'm also excited about going home this afternoon and seeing more progress on my house fix-up. The beadboard is going in today in the kitchen and the final coat of paint on the crown molding. Floors are next!

As stated in my last blog, our revival started yesterday, and the guest minister is WONDERFUL!! I was already looking forward to it, but that just makes me more eager to get there.

Until next time, I love all of you. Mom.

Another Birthday Weekend

God is so good, and I am so blessed! I went to Columbus and celebrated Andrew's 3rd birthday with him and friends and returned home safely. How precious those two little grandsons are to me, as well as their parents! I can hardly wait for Abigail to arrive in July to add a little more spice to that sweet family. As always, I'm looking forward to being in God's house tomorrow and spending time with my friends around the lunch table. Our revival starts tomorrow (and goes through Wednesday night) and I'm looking foward to that as well.

Well, now that I've shocked you by blogging twice in one week, guess I'll hush and let you revive yourself. Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

No More Excuses!

Betcha thought I would never blog again! ha. Since last time, I've enjoyed visiting with both of my daughters and all five grandchildren on the occasion of Emily's 7th birthday. I love my family and so enjoyed being with all of them (well, the majority - Stuart was not with us). This weekend, I'm going to Columbus to attend Andrew's birthday party (No. 3). He and Emily actually have the same birthday, but we have to have them at different times so I can go to both (at least that's my interpretation).

Today I'm finally getting started on some house fix-ups. The crown molding and chair rail go in today, after which I have to decide on paint colors and get an estimate on new flooring. I'm excited about how it's going to look but dread putting out the money to do it. I'm sure I'll be glad I did once it is done. I was up until past midnight last night stripping the wallpaper border off the living room wall and my body feels it today.

Our revival starts this Sunday through Wednesday, so you know where I'll be at night. I love being in church with my spiritual family.

I'm excited over the possibility of my sweet sister, Norma, coming over in May to spend some time with her son, daughter-in-law and me. It's been a year and a half since we've seen each other, so it's time. We're kinda planning on some "play" time just for the two of us (Dollywood or somewhere) and then on to Mississippi to visit with our brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mildred. I've cleared a week off in May, so pray that she can work out her plans.

Ok, gotta get to work. Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

Late Again!

Why do I have to force myself to do this? I want to blog, I want to journal, I want to scrapbook, I want to do so many things but find myself putting them off, dreading getting started, and finally doing nothing. Woe is me! I have been enjoying my new Camry and, having had it less than a month, already have 2000 miles on it. The insurance company of the man who hit my Thunderbird totaled it out, paid me for it and towed it away. I do believe that God orchestrated that because I got more for it that way than I could have by selling it outright (without the dent). HE is so good and has poured out gallons of blessings on me in the last few weeks. A friend of mine is writing a book, and I've been busy helping her edit, look for typos, grammar usage, etc., and she is including me in the acknowledgments! Wow, I am so honored. It should be going to the publisher this next week and is supposed to be on the bookshelves by June 15. I can hardly wait! There's not really much to write about - I stay busy going to work, church, yard sale shopping, visiting, taking day trips with friends, going to movies, eating out, etc. I am so thankful for my circle of friends with whom I do all these things. Life is good. That's it for now. Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

Ridin' in Style

Just wanted to let everyone know that my new wheels are wonderful!!! It is a beautiful car and just my size. However, I hope it improves on the gas mileage as it only got 25 mpg out of the first tank full. Maybe after it is broken in, it will do better. However, I do so much stopping and starting when I get into Tallahassee that I'm sure that accounts for less mileage per gallon. As long as it doesn't get less, I'll be happy. If I can ever learn how to add pictures to these blogs, I'll do so but it just doesn't seem to be working for me tonight.

I just got off the phone with my niece in Mississippi - Lora Stallings. She is so sweet to call me occasionally and keep me posted on the happenings with her and Scott. She told me the two of them are going with their church group in October to Thailand on a mission trip and sounded really excited. That's the month of their 1st anniversary, so what a way to celebrate!

I'm feeling a need to see all of my grandchildren, but especially the three older ones. I was with the two younger ones a couple of weeks ago, but it's been over a month since seeing the others. Guess that would be a good excuse to head to Florida for a visit and show off my car. ha. I'll give that some thought. Seeing the pictures of the two younger ones on their mom's blog makes me want to get hold of them too, so maybe I'll just TRAVEL!

Until that happens, and until next time for blogging, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. You are all precious to my heart. Mom.

I DID IT!!

Yep, after driving the same car for eight years that was beginning to need some repairs and was run into last week by another driver, I took that to mean that it was time to get a new car. So, as of today, I am the proud, scared (payments!!) owner of a 2007 Toyota Camry. Wow, it drives and rides like a dream! Gold color, so it's really sharp looking. It is supposed to get 34 mpg, which will be an improvement over what I'm used to. I'm so thankful to be able to get it and I know God will provide so that I can afford it. It's kinda sad to see my Thunderbird sitting on the side of the drive with the new one under the carport. ha. It has served me well and I've grown attached to it in some respects. BUT, give me a week and I'll be over it. Ok, just wanted you to share my joy (you can share my payments too if you wish!). ha. Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

Crash!

"All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and called according to His purpose." I've repeated that verse to myself several times this morning. Why? Because on my way to work, I was hit by another vehicle. No, I'm not hurt, and I thank God for his protection. My car has a hicky on the right passenger side - knocked off my mirror and dented and scraped that area. The other driver was totally at fault and was cited for improper lane change (he was turning right onto street I was on and ran into me). Also, he didn't have his insurance information with him, so I'm praying that is not going to be a problem. I've reported it to my insurance company and have left it in their hands. There were three passengers in his vehicle, and they were all really nice guys and very apologetic. So, I pray that this will work for my good in whatever way the Lord has in mind. I'm certainly not worried about it - just thankful no one was hurt. On another note, I am THRILLED with the news that grandchild number 6 is going to be a girl! See how blessed we are????!!!!!!! Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

Another Change

I decided my blog page looked like a Texaco advertisement with the star, so I've changed it. I was tired of it anyway and needed a new "look." Maybe it will inspire me to blog more often. Can you believe two in one day!?! Later.

Changes!

Life consists of changes, most of which I like. This past weekend, I traveled to Columbus to help Jawan and family move to a new house. I love the house and hope it won't take them long to adjust and make it feel like "home." When I returned home, my boss called me (can you believe that!?!) to tell me of a major change at the office. Since I had been off on Friday, he didn't want me coming in on Monday and be shocked when I learned the news. Four of our attorneys are pulling out and forming their own firm, which will leave only five to carry on as usual. He assured me that the change would not affect me in any way. This is the way he put it: "The good news is that all of your attorneys will be there on Monday; the bad news is that all of your attorneys will be there on Monday." Ha, ha, I love his sense of humor. I told him I believed the good outweighed the bad. We've just gone through a major change in the office anyway and now this - oh well, guess that's what's called progress. When I started to work here 16 years ago, we had 18 attorneys in this office and a branch office in Pensacola with 5 attorneys for a total of 23. About six years ago, four attorneys pulled out and formed their own firm leaving 19 in our firm. Now, the Pensacola office has now broken away from us to become their own entity, which left 14 in our firm. In the interim, for whatever reason five others have moved on to other firms, which left 9. With the departure of the four this week, we are left with 5. Gee, that's kinda sad to see us dwindling down but, who knows, we may hire additional attorneys to take up the slack. I love my job, my boss, the benefits and the working conditions so I plan to be here until they kick me out, I get too old to work, or the Lord takes me home, whichever occurs first. ha. Ok, I know you were just dying to know all of this but I'll not bore you further. I will close by wishing a Happy Valentine's Day to everyone, especially my children (Angela, Jawan and Stuart) and grandchildren (Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Andrew and Luke). I love all of you with all my heart! Mom.

Just Chillin'

B-r-r-r-r- it's cold in south Georgia! I'm not complaining, however. The sun is out, I've been to church this morning, and out to lunch with friends. So, there's nothing to complain about. In addition, I had quite an unexpected surprise yesterday. Stuart and two of his friends dropped in (from Atlanta) and stayed about 15 to 20 minutes with me. They had been to a truck/car show close by and he knew he better not get that close without coming on to my house. Nothing worth writing about has happened in my life since my last blog, but I didn't want my child (No. 2) to have to remind me. ha. I am planning to go to her house this coming Friday to help with their move and yard sale. Then I'll try to get back in time for our church Valentine banquet on Saturday night. It will be a busy weekend, but I'm looking forward to it. Gee, my oldest grandchild, Meredith, has a birthday tomorrow - NO. 16/! Where have the years gone???? She is so sweet, so beautiful, and so talented. But, oh, how I worry about all the things she and Ethan (and all teenagers for that matter) are faced with on a day-t0-day basis. However, I pray for my children and grandchildren by name every morning, so I know God will take care of them for me. I love you so much, Meredith, and want you to have a beautiful, full and happy life and one that honors God. Ok, now that I'm on the verge of getting mushy and teary, I'll stop. Guess I'll go snooze in my recliner for an hour or two before going back to church tonight. Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.

Obedience

Ok, I've been ordered twice now by my ever-so-faithful-blogging daughter to update my blog. Guess I better obey. It's been so long since my last one I can hardly remember what's happened in between.

I do know I was sick in December and missed a week of work, took a week of vacation the first part of this month and went to Florida to keep my three oldest grandchildren while Angela and Steve went on a cruise. It was a wonderful week for all of us with no problems (I didn't expect any because they are wonderful children). Angela and Steve thoroughly enjoyed the cruise (who wouldn't being in the company of David Jeremiah, Jerry Vines, Johnny Hunt, Gold City, etc. etc.etc) and came home still wearing their "sea legs." It was rather comical watching them grab hold of furniture to keep from falling. ha.

Since being back at work, we've moved our offices from one building to another, changed the name of the firm (actually just added a couple names), and are trying to find places for all our "stuff." I'm trying to get used to having my desk out in the open with constant traffice back and forth. Guess in time it will feel like home.

My "baby" turns 31 this weekend, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY STU-BUG! I don't know where the years have gone since he entered the world at 4 pounds 5 ounces (now 6'1", approx. 170 lbs). I'm so thankful God has granted good health, good families, and most of all salvation to all my children. I pray for each of them daily that they will stay close to the Lord, be sensitive to his leading, and be protected from all harm (as well as a mound of other requests). God is good and has answered many of my prayers and is still working on a lot of the rest.

Until next time, I love you Steve, Angela, Meredith, Ethan, Emily, Mitch, Jawan, Andrew, Luke and Stuart. Mom.
